It’s early Obamazoic Era. Seems to be some sort of primitive communication device.

We may have evidence of an evolutionary offshoot, here. According to carbon dating, this implement was fashioned at a time when nearly the entire population of our ancestors, Homo sapiens, were using devices called “cell phones” to communicate with each other. The devices were crude at best, as they were actual physical tools and not the simple neural implants we receive at birth now. This one in particular, though, seems to be a precursor to “cell phone” technology called a “land line” that somehow survived well past the time period in which we normally find it.

We may have a missing link, here, Professor. Notice this unit has advanced enough to shed its answering machine in favor of a more-evolved voicemail system. And look here, around the ribs: a phone book feature. Up until now we believed land lines to pre-date electronic phone book features by several millenia! We also see the beginnings of customizable ringtones forming here, while at the same time the phone still has its vestigial speakerphone and caller ID!
